Juneau residents should be aware that heavy rain is expected this weekend following a week of stormy weather. Sustained heavy precipitation creates ideal conditions for landslides, as the ground becomes saturated with water and loosens soil, rocks, and trees.
Residents on or around slopes are encouraged to stay alert to their surroundings and to follow the latest weather information from National Weather Service.
See CBJ’s 2022 landslide maps for more information—and be aware that nature is not predictable. It is always better to safe than sorry. If at any point you do not feel safe, or if you simply want to take an extra measure of caution, seek shelter away from your home.
No matter where you live in Juneau, planning for an emergency is always a good idea. Take a moment to read CBJ’s Personal and Household Preparedness guidelines. A few basic steps—like making a family evacuation plan or putting together a bag of emergency supplies—can make all the difference when you need to react quickly in a stressful situation.
