Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Due to fallen trees and unstable soil conditions, the USDA Forest Service Juneau Ranger District has temporarily closed the Otter Way parking lot at the Auke Recreation Area.
The parking lot, which provides access to the south end of the recreation site, is unavailable to the public until further notice. This closure includes foot traffic.
The agency has determined the parking area and access stairs are not currently safe due to the threat of falling trees caused by recent weather events. Anyone using the Auke Recreation trail system will not have through-access to the Otter Way trailhead.
