AFP-Alaska urges State House to reject defined benefits bill

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) – Following the initial Senate passage of legislation (Senate Bill 88) to reinstate Alaska’s defined benefit pension plan for public workers, Americans for Prosperity-Alaska (AFP-AK) State Director Bethany Marcum released the following statement:

“Returning to a defined benefit pension plan would be disastrous to the state’s budget and would cost Alaska upwards of $9 billion in avoidable expenses. Simply put – Alaskans can’t afford this misguided legislation.

“This isn’t Washington, DC, where politicians can spend with no accountability – Alaskans deserve a fiscally responsible government that doesn’t dive deeper into debt due to an insolvent program. “AFP-Alaska urges the State House to swiftly reject this legislation and get back to policies that will help Alaskans prosper.”
