Alaska State Troopers arrest man on felony warrant

Palmer, Alaska (KINY) – On Saturday, at approximately 12:42 a.m., Alaska State Troopers, Palmer Post, attempted a traffic stop on a 1983 Subaru Brat for an equipment violation on Trunk Road near PWH. 

The vehicle failed to yield a pursuit ensued southbound on the Glenn Highway. 

With the assistance of the Anchorage Police Department, spike strips were successfully employed, causing the driver of the vehicle to intentionally crash before fleeing into a Peters Creek residential neighborhood.  

With the assistance of the Wasilla Police Department Officers, including K9 Echo, Anchorage Police Department, including their K9s, the suspect was located hiding on an elevated porch of a residence and taken into custody without further incident.

Investigation revealed the driver was 35-year-old Austin Banks of Anchorage who had an outstanding $500.00 felony AST warrant for his arrest stemming from an escape and felony theft charge.  

Banks was arrested on his warrant as well as new charges of felony eluding and reckless driving. He was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial where he was held without bail.
