Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Owners of over 450 properties near the Mendenhall River could each pay nearly $8,000 for a proposed semi-permanent levee designed to mitigate flood risks.

The Juneau Assembly is considering creating a Local Improvement District (LID) to fund the project, which is estimated to cost $7.83 million.

Under the proposal, the City and Borough of Juneau would cover half the expenses, with property owners contributing the rest.

There will be a Regular Assembly Meeting today that will include discussion about the possible Local Improvement District (LID) for the proposed HESCO barrier flood mitigation project.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in person in the City Hall Assembly Chambers and remotely via Zoom.

It will also be livestreamed on CBJ’s YouTube.
