Juneau, Alaska (KINY)—For over a decade, the Look Local First initiative has been encouraging Juneau residents to support their local businesses, helping the community thrive and preserve its unique character.
Juneau’s businesses are an integral part of the community. They are owned, managed, and staffed by neighbors and friends who contribute significantly to the local culture and economy. These businesses support the community by sponsoring sports, the arts, charities, non-profits, and various community events, creating a vibrant and interconnected society.
This year, nearly 200,000 votes were cast in over 150 categories, covering a wide range of services from food and travel to general services. The community’s participation underscores the importance of local support and the value placed on recognizing outstanding contributions to Juneau’s quality of life.
