Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – On Friday night, Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at Switzer Trailer Park. There were no injuries to the occupants or any firefighters according to CCFR.
CCFR’s Assistant Chief Ed Quinto said it was quickly extinguished.
“Capital City Fire Rescue got a call at about 4:46 pm for a reported fire underneath the trailer at Switzer Creek. Our units arrived on scene. We found lots of smoke and a small amount of fire underneath the trailer. Our crews were able to get underneath the trailer quickly and extinguish within 10 minutes,” he said. “There was damage underneath the trailer but the main trailer itself had a little bit of smoke and no fire damage. Both occupants of the trailer were out at the time we got there and were able to get inside after we extinguished the fire.”
The fire marshal then investigated the fire.
“Looks like it was electrical in nature. There was an electrician there working on an electrical system, doing some work and somehow something caught on fire,” Quinto said. “At this time we’re going to call it electrical nature and damage was probably around $2,000.”
CCFR worked with the occupants to find a place to stay while the trailer was being cleaned up.
The American Red Cross was contacted and the park manager helped with finding a hotel room for the night.
How long they may need the shelter is hard to tell, Quinto said, but he thinks they should be back home sometime Saturday as the smoke was minimal.
