Capital Transit to expand bus service beginning Monday

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Capital Transit patrons can expect expanded bus routes and schedule options beginning Monday.

Notable schedule updates include the return of service to route 5 (University Connector) and route 6 (Riverside/Airport Connector), which were suspended in Dec. 2022 due to a shortage of drivers.

These routes include service to the airport, UAS, and the Teal Street Center social services campus.

Successful recruitment of new drivers and staff also allows Capital Transit to offer expanded service in the early morning on two core routes – routes 1 and 4, which service Douglas/downtown Juneau and the Mendenhall Valley, respectively.

“We heard from our ridership that our existing schedule lacked an option to get to the hospital – whether for work or for care – before 7:00 a.m.,” explained Capital Transit Superintendent Rich Ross. “The earlier service on routes 1 and 4 fills this previously identified transportation gap for residents in our community.”

Bus riders of all routes should consult the updated schedules as service timepoint changes to routes 7, 8, 9, and 10 also go into effect on Monday.
