Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The voter information guide for the October 1 CBJ Municipal Election is now available for download in PDF format. Copies will be mailed to all Juneau voters and should begin to arrive in mailboxes on Saturday.
Paper copies will also be available at all Juneau Public Library branches and the City Hall Heritage Way entrance beginning next week.
The voter information guide includes a sample ballot and information about the three propositions up for vote: Proposition 1 is a nearly $13 million dollar bond for Public Safety Communication Infrastructure, proposition 2 is the widely talked about Ship-Free Saturday measure and prop 3 is a $10 million dollar bond to reconstruct the clarifier building at Juneau Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant. Voters interested in learning more about Proposition 3 are encouraged to explore the FAQ on the CBJ website.
Ballots for the election will be mailed to registered Juneau voters beginning September 12. Voters can return their ballots by postal mail or at one of several secure ballot drop boxes throughout Juneau. In-person Vote Centers will be open from September 16 through October 1 at the Mendenhall Valley Library and the City Hall Assembly Chambers.
Information for Proposition 2 includes statements for and against the idea, provided by independent groups advocating for those positions. It’s important to note that Juneau’s proposition number 2 is NOT the same as the statewide ballot measure 2. The statewide measure would repeal Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system. If you vote “yes” on on Juneau’s proposition 2 , you’re voting to start ship free Saturdays, if you vote yes on Alaska’s Ballot Measure 2, you are voting to STOP the current statewide election system, and go back to the prior primary system.
The last day to vote in the CBJ election is Tuesday, October 1. All ballots must be postmarked or returned by this date
