Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – An accident occurred Friday afternoon in the Auke Bay roundabout. Juneau Police Department Public Safety Manager Erann Kalwara provided the available details.
“At about 3:23 p.m., we got a report that a dump truck had tipped over in the area of the roundabout. The officers responded, fire department responded. The driver is okay. No injuries. They were the only occupant,” she said. “The vehicle was completely blocking the Mendenhall Loop Road on back loop.”
Traffic was stopped so responders could take care of the scene.
The fire department did respond to a fuel spill related to the accident. Capital City Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Sam Russell said the leak was minor.
“When we arrived there was a minor spill of some hydraulic oil and a little bit of diesel fuel. Our crews put down some pads to divert it and then the dirt that was in the dump truck protected the storm drain,” he said. “Probably less than 10 gallons leaked. And they righted the truck and that stopped the leak.”
