A landslide occurred around 4:15 pm on Sunday, August 25, on the bypass near Second Avenue in Ketchikan. A joint media announcement from the EOC at 9:30 p.m. Sunday confirmed that there was one “known fatality” resulting from the landslide.
According to the announcement, three other individuals had been taken to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center. One person was treated and released, and two were admitted.
“At this time, all individuals have been accounted for,” stated the announcement.

Sean Griffin, a longtime Ketchikan resident died in a massive landslide in Ketchikan on August 25th. Griffin was a 17-year veteran of the City of Ketchikan Public Works team.
In addition, a fundraiser was created for Sean Griffin’s co-worker who was with him when they got caught in the slide. Chris Riley survived but was injured.
