The declaration will activate the state’s disaster public assistance program that can fund the repair, restoration, reconstruction, or replacement of public facilities or infrastructure damaged or destroyed by a disaster.

An atmospheric river centered over the Talkeetna Mountains caused flooding in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough community of Talkeetna.

Six to twelve feet of flood water inundated the downtown Talkeetna flood protection revetment, damaging 325 feet of the structure that protects the community.

“This declaration will allow us to support the Borough in repairing critical infrastructure that protects Talkeetna from future flooding events,” said Bryan Fisher, Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough declared a local disaster on Sep. 6, 2023, requesting state disaster assistance.
