Juneau, Alaska (KINY)- Today, Juneau Harbors invites the community to celebrate the completion of the Aurora Harbor Phase III project. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Docks & Harbors’ annual Customer Appreciation Cook-Out.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, with guest speakers Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom and Deputy Mayor Michelle Bonnet Hale, will begin at 3 p.m. Following the ceremony, attendees can enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers with Docks & Harbors staff. Parking is available along the Aurora Harbor frontage road.
The Aurora Harbor Phase III project, also known as the H Float, includes slips for 60-foot and 48-foot vessels and 280 linear feet of transient moorage. This phase also provides electrical service and potable and firefighting water. The $4.25 million project was awarded to Trucano Construction in April 2023 and was funded by CBJ Harbor Enterprise funds, the 2017 CBJ 1% Sales Tax Initiative, and a $2 million ADOT Harbor Facility Grant.
Looking ahead, Aurora Harbor Phase IV will complete the rebuilding of the harbor with the installation of two additional main floats (I & J), 42-foot slips, and a 117-foot T-float to augment transient moorage at H Float. Nearly $20 million has been invested in improvements to Aurora Harbor over the past decade.
