Juneau Dance Theatre performs winter showcase

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Juneau Dance Theatre (JDT) presents its Winter Showcase, on Jan. 13 and 14, at the Juneau Douglas High School: Yadaa. At Kalé Auditorium. Dance performances will feature the JDT Fusion Dance Team’s season lineup, led by coaches, Danielle Cadiente and Christa Baxter. Other highlights include new choreography by Viktor Bell, Alisha Falberg, and Janice Hurley.

The Winter Showcase is the second of three mainstage performances by the school, along with The Nutcracker and the upcoming spring show, Alice in Wonderland.

Winter Showcase allows the JDT Fusion Dance Team members to perform their competition routines for hometown fans. The team traveled to a competition in Anchorage in October and will compete in Honolulu in May, but there’s nothing like a hometown crowd.

Coach Danielle Cadiente stated, “Not all team members opt to travel for competition, but everyone gets excited about the local performances so friends and family can celebrate their hard work.”

“Dance team is a full-year commitment. We hold auditions in early summer, and start working on routines right away, for fall competition”, stated coach Christa Baxter. “Students have full plates with The Nutcracker, and our other performances – plus competition prep – all while managing a full ballet schedule and their team classes” Baxter stated.

The 2-performance run features group dances in a wide range of styles, including hip hop, tap, jazz, contemporary, and more; and several solos and duets.
