This is a developing story.

A 29-year-old man was found dead at Cope Park on Monday afternoon.

JPD spokesperson Lt. Krag Campbell spoke to the active investigation.

“The death is not considered suspicious at this time. JPD received a call I think it was at about 12:52 p.m. and it came in as a welfare check on the 29-year-old male,” he said. “I think about 15 minutes later we got another call from an unidentified person that that person was located deceased.”

Alaska State Troopers assisted JPD in the investigation and attempted resuscitation.

After the initial assist, the investigation is now being directed by JPD.

Next of kin has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
