Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Over Thanksgiving weekend, the Juneau Public Market, now in its 40th year, will host over 175 vendors from throughout Alaska and the Lower 48 at Centennial Hall and the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.
According to event organizers, roughly half the Public Market vendors are from out of town representing 25 different communities.
Approximately 50 vendors this year are new to the market.
This Public Market is dedicated to the memory of Judy Cooper, who participated as a Public Market vendor from 1994 through 2021.
Cooper, a former Juneau resident, was living in Gustavus when she passed away at age 83 in April of this year.
She was known for her prints and books featuring woodblock art, her love of dogs, her outdoor skills, and her support for community art projects.
The Public Market opens at noon on Friday and at 10 am on Saturday and Sunday.
Operator of Public Market Peter Metcalfe said there will be additional parking this year, courtesy of Duff Mitchell.
He said they’ll also have entertainment throughout the market.
“The Juneau Cello Choir will be performing on Friday, and Vox Borealis, the choral group will be performing for at least a couple days,” he said. “They will be walking throughout the hall singing their holiday songs.”
