Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Windfall Lake cabin and the adjacent dock and picnic area will not be available for public use between June 3-23, 2024, while renovations are underway.

Cabin, picnic area and dock users may see preparatory work beginning as early as the last week of March.

Site renovations will include replacement of the existing dock, a new ramp connecting the dock with the cabin to improve handicap access, and an expanded picnic area for large groups. Some tree felling may be required at the site to accommodate these updates.

The Lake Creek snow machine access gate is closed until further notice due to decreasing snow depths, but foot and ski traffic remain open.

The USDA Forest Service Juneau Ranger District closes the gate when snow depths fall below the minimum level or if resource damage is occurring due to snow machine use.

Minimum snow depths are required to maintain access for snow machine use between Dec. 15 and April 15 every winter.

The gate can reopen if sufficient snow depths are restored between now and April 15th.
