McGivney’s Sports Bar Downtown Closes its Doors

Juneau, Alaska, (KINY) – McGivney’s Sports Bar, located in the 4 Points Sheridan, officially closed its doors on Saturday. The original Mendenhall location remains open.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts, acquired by Marriot, purchased the Gold Belt Hotel in 2017. The new hotel ownership did not want to assume the operation of the existing restaurant, so local restaurateurs David McGivney and Tracy LaBarge were approached to take over the restaurant. The restaurant occupied its downtown location for almost a decade.

This statement was posted on McGivney’s Facebook page:

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Downtown McGivney’s officially closing its doors today. We want to take this moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who have walked through our doors and supported us.

From engagements to baby showers, retirements to birthdays, state championships to divorces, you celebrated life’s milestones with us, and we are truly honored that you chose us to be a part of these cherished moments. We’ve cheered on your favorite sports teams together and had the privilege of being a part of your lives. It has been an incredible journey here in Downtown Juneau, but unfortunately, we must bid farewell to our beloved Sportsbar nestled in this wonderful city.

We want to extend a sincere thank you for allowing us to serve you for the past 9 years. Your unwavering support and loyalty have meant everything to us. While our Downtown location may be closing, we invite you to visit our Valley location and continue to be a part of our community.

To the incredible people of Juneau, we will deeply miss seeing your familiar faces and being a part of your lives. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we hope to see you at our Valley location from time to time.

Sincerely, The McGivney’s Family”
