Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – Youth Floorball is coming to Juneau!
The latest addition to CBJ Parks & Recreation’s youth sports lineup will take place at Treadwell Arena during the new cement season in June. Registration opens online Monday, May 6 at 8 a.m. through the Parks & Rec registration catalog (under the “Youth & Teen” tab). The program costs $45 + tax.
The season kicks off with a mandatory skills clinic on May 22, then runs from June 3 to June 26 on Monday and Wednesday nights. Players will be organized into two divisions, ages 8-10 and ages 11-14, and each one hour session will include 15 minutes of skills and drills and three 12 minute periods of game play. Protective gear will be provided by Parks & Rec.
Teams will meet either Monday or Wednesday on a rotating basis, allowing each team to play different opponents throughout the season. The younger division will play from 6-7 p.m. and the older division will play from 7-8 p.m.
Scholarships are available; contact Amanda Lovejoy at (907) 586-2635 ext. 4156 or amanda.lovejoy@juneau.gov for more information.
Youth Floorball relies on volunteer coaches. If you’re interested in getting involved, contact Amanda Lovejoy, or visit the Youth Floorball page to find more info for parents and coaches.
And before the ice is traded out for cement, Treadwell Arena will host one last free community open skate to close out the season on Sunday, May 5 from 5-6:30 p.m. Admission includes skate rentals—just be aware that skates are limited and available first come, first served. This event is generously sponsored by Alaska Auto Repair.
