Just in time for National Forest Products Week (Oct. 15-21), Alaskans can now apply for a variety of wood product grants from the USDA Forest Service.
Applications are being accepted now through early December.
The grant opportunities available are:
- Wood Products Infrastructure Assistance, deadline Dec. 1 – Helps with funding to establish, reopen, retrofit, expand, or improve sawmills or other wood-processing facilities.
- Wood Innovations grants, deadline Dec. 15 – Supports projects that expand or stimulate the U.S. wood products markets and wood energy markets.
- Community Wood Energy grants, deadline Dec. 15 – Provides funding to install community wood energy systems or to build innovative wood product manufacturing facilities.
In past years, communities and organizations in Alaska have received grants for a wide range of projects from installing a wood chip heating system in Galena to creating a containerized pellet mill in Ketchikan.
