Preliminary CBJ Election Results are in

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) -Preliminary results are in for the October 1, 2024, municipal election in Juneau, With over 23% of ballots courted, Beth Weldon leads the mayoral race with 3,795 votes, surpassing Angela Rodell, who received 2,512 votes.

In the race for Assembly District 1, Neil Steininger secured 3,561 votes, defeating Connor D. Ulmer, who recieved 1,940 votes.

Assembly District 2 saw Maureen Hall leading with 2,172 votes, followed by Nathaniel (Nano) Brooks with 1,770 votes. Other candidates included Emily Mesch (781 votes), Dorene Lorenz (628 votes), and Mary Marks (476 votes).

The Board of Education race allowed voters to select three candidates. Elizabeth (Ebett) Siddon leads with 3,526 votes, followed by Will Muldoon with 3,171 and Amber Frommherz with 2,586.

Other contenders include Jenny Thomas (1,875 votes), Michelle Stuart Morgan (1,658 votes), and Jeff Redmond (1,384 votes).

Propositions one and three are both passing comfortably with over 60% in favor. Proposition one authorizes the city to spend nearly $12.75 million on an updated radio communication system while prop three is $10 million worth of funding to improve the wastewater plant. 

Proposition 2, the “Ship- Free Saturdays” proposition is failing so far with 58.6% of voters rejecting it.  

In the recall petitions, voters chose not to recall Sorensen, with 4,091 votes against and 2,062 in favor. Similarly, Mackey’s recall failed with 3,982 votes against and 2,175 in favor.
