Schools closed districtwide due to winter storm

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – All Juneau School District schools will be closed today, Monday, January 22, due to weather conditions in the Juneau area. The main roads have been cleared this morning, but side roads and sidewalks are still full of snow. Snow is expected to continue throughout the day and could turn into freezing rain.

For the safety of families and staff, today will be the Juneau School District’s first remote learning day.

All in-person classes, RALLY, in-person meetings, and after-school activities have been canceled.

Remote learning information was sent to families on Friday. Today, they will receive additional communications and information from their child’s teacher and/or school about what to do. Since this is the first remote learning day, JSD has told families not to worry if they don’t yet have a device or if things don’t work perfectly.

Middle and High School students should check Canvas for their coursework for today. Elementary students will hear from their teacher later this morning.
