Floatplane Suffers Engine Failure During Take Off

A Pybus Point Lodge floatplane crashed shortly after takeoff from the floatplane pond at Juneau International Airport early this afternoon. The Juneau Police Department reported the plane slid through the wetlands and came to rest on a muddy bank along the water.

Darryl Brosshardt from Pybus Point stated, “The plane experienced engine trouble and crashed in the nearby wetlands this afternoon. Thankfully, everyone is okay.”

The pilot and one passenger were on board and taken to Bartlet Regional Hospital for examination. Witnesses reported hearing a loud pop as the plane attempted to take off. Temsco helicopters recovered the aircraft. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the accident.
