Sitka Police arrest woman for assault and criminal mischief

Sitka, Alaska (KINY) – On Saturday, at approximately 2:30 PM, the Sitka Police Department received a report from a local business that an intoxicated individual had been in the store throwing and damaging store property and attempting to kick an employee. The employees were able to provide a direction of travel and a description of the suspect.

An officer located 31-year-old Cathy Slats in the 700 block of Katlian Street matching the description provided by the store.

The officer attempted to speak with Slats about the allegations, but she immediately became aggressive and belligerent and when being informed she was being detained, she attempted to strike and fight the officer. While attempting to detain Slats, the officer sustained injuries and the Police radio and officer’s cellphone were broken by Slats.

Slats was placed under arrest and while being transported to the jail, she attempted to kick out the windows and camera in the back of the car and proceeded to urinate in the backseat and spread the urine all over the back of the patrol car.

Slats is currently being charged with Assualt in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Fifth Degree. She is currently being held in the Sitka Jail on a $1,000 bail.
