Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The Juneau Police Department originally announced it was going to release the bodycam footage from the July shooting of 35- year old Steven Kissack, a man experiencing homelessness in the Capitol city, last Friday but then they reversed course. Instead, they plan to release the footage at an indeterminate time tomorrow. The footage was shown in advance to members of the CBJ assembly that chose to view it.
The decision to delay the release of the footage was made because the state-level investigation of the encounter is expected to be concluded and released tomorrow as well. That investigation is being done by Alaska’s Office of Special prosecutions. In July, Deputy Attorney General John Skidmore said that the office had investigated 148 officer-involved deaths since 2010. Not one of those 148 investigations has resulted in charges being filed against an officer.
