The Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development holds quarterly meeting

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Board met in Anchorage for professional development, which included board member orientation, committee meetings, and a tour of the Alaska Pacific University campus.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, the Board met at the Matakuska-Susitna Borough School District Board Room.

They heard presentations from the Alaska School Leadership Academy, the Alaska Science Teachers Association, and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District.

The Thursday meeting also included department updates on Tribal Compacting and the Teacher Retention and Recruitment Playbook.

The Alaska Teacher Retention and Recruitment Playbook is an extensive and accessible resource for implementing practical, professional, and policy action steps to address the challenges of teacher retention and recruitment in Alaska.

The Board granted provisional state approval of the Alaska Bible College Teacher Preparation Program and approved regulations for the Limited Teacher Certificates and Seal of Biliteracy to go out for public comment.

The public comment period will open when published on the Alaska Online Public Notices website.

The Board’s next scheduled meeting is a virtual meeting to hear the Commissioner’s Report on Dec. 6, 2023.
