Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – As the cruise season hits its stride, Juneau is preparing for an exceptionally busy period with a series of cruise ships scheduled to dock almost daily from May 6 through May 12, 2024.
The maritime parade begins on May 6, with the arrival of four ships, including the Discovery Princess and Koningsdam, both docking in the early afternoon and staying until late evening. The NG Sea Lion will arrive as early as 6:00 a.m. and depart late evening.
Over the next several days, Juneau will host a variety of ships from major cruise lines. Notable appearances include the Norwegian Bliss on May 7 and Quantum of the Seas on May 10, both known for their impressive size and array of onboard amenities. The consistent schedule continues with multiple arrivals each day, culminating on May 12 when five ships, including the Ovation of the Seas and the new Silver Nova, will dock.
Juneau’s city officials and tourism boards have been coordinating closely to manage the impact of increased foot traffic in the downtown area and popular tourist spots like Mendenhall Glacier and Mount Roberts. Special measures, such as additional shuttle services and extended hours for local attractions, are being implemented to enhance visitor experience and mitigate congestion.
As cruise lines and local businesses work in tandem, the goal is to balance economic gain with community welfare and environmental preservation, ensuring that the cruise ship season benefits all parties involved.
