The Texarkana Arkansas Board of Directors has approved the costs and clarified the process for handling nuisance properties.

The Texarkana Arkansas Board of Directors has approved the costs and clarified the process for handling nuisance properties. With the Oct. 15 tax deadline approaching, 38 properties have been flagged as delinquent and sent to the Miller County tax collector.

Property owners will receive a 30-day notice to clean up their lots. If they fail to act, the city will clean the property and charge the owner $220, including a $200 fee and a 10% penalty. A lien will be placed on the property, which must be paid before settling property taxes. The ordinance applies to grass or plants taller than 12 inches.

City Manager Tyler Richards assured that city crews document properties before and after cleanup to avoid disputes. The next board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 21.
