Texarkana, TX – April 19, 2024 – Red River Credit Union (RRCU) is issuing a statement to elaborate on the news report dated April 18, 2024, regarding a bank scam impacting an individual. RRCU aims to provide additional information and reminders to our community, regardless of their financial institution (FI).

RRCU is aware of a significant number of malicious text messages targeting multiple banks and credit unions in northeast Texas. These texts are sent to numbers with local area codes and reference various FIs in our area. The intent is for unsuspecting recipients to click a provided link and enter their account information.

Red River Credit Union is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and member protection. We have robust security measures in place to safeguard our members’ information. However, we acknowledge the challenges in distinguishing legitimate texts and links from scams in the constantly evolving and increasing fraud environment.

· Avoid Clicking Unsolicited Links: Do not click on links in unsolicited messages to access your account online. Always use trusted access points, whether through phone apps or official websites.

· Verify Caller Identity: If you receive an unsolicited call, do not assume they are who they claim to be. Caller ID can be spoofed. Hang up and call back using verified contact information to confirm their identity.

· Protect Multifactor Codes: Never share multifactor authentication codes sent to your phone or email with anyone. Legitimate representatives will not ask for these codes.
