CHRISTUS Health, a not-for-profit Catholic health system, announced today that its affiliate, CHRISTUS Health Ark-La-Tex, has signed an agreement to purchase Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas, from Steward Health Care, a Dallas-based company.
CHRISTUS Health Ark-La-Tex’s bid has been named the initial offer, but the sale is open to higher or better-qualified bids, which must be submitted by September 9, 2024. An auction may follow based on procedures approved by a bankruptcy court.
“We are committed to continuing our legacy of exceptional care in the Texarkana community,” said Ernie Sadau, President and CEO of CHRISTUS Health. “Bringing Wadley Regional Medical Center into the CHRISTUS family is a step toward ensuring this legacy for the next century.”
The sale is subject to standard closing conditions, including approval from the bankruptcy court and regulators. If CHRISTUS Health Ark-La-Tex wins the auction, the transaction is expected to close in the coming months.
Jason Adams, President of CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, emphasized the organization’s commitment to providing high-quality care to all, including underserved populations, in line with their mission of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.
