H.E.B. Chairman Charles Butt is making a personal donation of $20 million to Texas food banks to combat hunger and food insecurity across the state.
Among the 20 food banks in the Feeding Texas network set to receive this donation is the East Texas Food Bank.
“We are thrilled that the East Texas Food Bank is included in this generous donation to the Feeding Texas network,” said David Emerson, CEO of the East Texas Food Bank. “This gift will greatly impact our mission to fight hunger and bring hope to East Texas.”
Butt expressed in a news release that the idea of Texans, especially children, going hungry is unacceptable.
In Texas, four million people experience food insecurity, with 20% of them being children, according to Feeding Texas.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) ranks Texas as the second most food-insecure state, just behind Arkansas, which holds the first position in the country.
