After 34 years of vacancy, the iconic Hotel Grim in downtown Texarkana is set to reopen as The Lofts at The Grim.
Manager Samantha Jones said the final fire inspection is the last step before residents can start moving in, which could happen in the coming days. “We’re just days away. It could even be tomorrow,” Jones said.
The apartment complex has received 55 applications for its 93 units. Renovations, which began in 2019, were made possible by a $1.4 million HUD loan to the City of Texarkana in 2017, with an additional $25 million from Cohen-Esrey for the project.
Located at 301 Stateline Avenue, the Grim has been a local landmark for nearly a century. Jones hopes it will become a vibrant part of the downtown community, saying, “We want to bring back the luster and be an asset to the area and our residents.”
