The Arkansas Department of Health is holding flu vaccination clinics across the state this week to help protect residents as flu season approaches. Health officials say getting a flu shot can prevent the illness or reduce symptoms if you catch it.
Miller County’s clinic will be held Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Health Unit on Walnut Street. Flu shots are available to anyone aged six months or older, no appointment needed. The vaccine is free, though residents should bring insurance information if available.
Around 1,000 doses have been provided to the county for distribution to schools and the community.
Flu season typically runs from October to March, with peaks in the winter months. Health officials urge people to take precautions, noting it takes about two weeks to build immunity after the shot.
“We should always be prepared for flu,” said Julie Huntley, interim administrator at the Miller County Health Unit. “You’re protecting yourself and the ones you care for.”
For convenience, wear short or loose sleeves when getting vaccinated.
