Volunteers gathered at Northern Hills Baptist Church in Texarkana on Saturday to launch this year’s Operation Christmas Child, a project by Samaritan’s Purse, an international humanitarian aid organization.
Operation Christmas Child collects shoebox gifts from local communities and distributes them to children in need around the world as an expression of God’s love.
Area Coordinator Carolyn Sparkman said, “Every child that receives a shoebox gift also receives the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Last year, the Texarkana area donated 34,750 shoeboxes.
Local churches participating in the effort include Northern Hills Baptist, Cross View Baptist, and Trinity Baptist Church. The National Collection Week for 2024 is set for Nov. 18-25.
