Renovations will soon start at the Miller County Health Unit. County leaders say the project aims to improve efficiency, security, and create a more welcoming atmosphere for clients. Miller County received a $500,000 grant from the Arkansas Department of Health to fund the remodeling.
Originally built in the early 1900s as the Michael Meager Memorial Hospital, the building has served various functions over the years. The Sisters of Charity took over in 1948, and it became part of the St. Michael Health System before being remodeled in 1996 when the Miller County Health Unit moved in.
The upcoming renovations will upgrade the reception area, provide more space for clients, streamline access to services, and enhance door security. A new roof will also be installed to address leaks.
“It’s going to help the public with access and improve security. Part of the grant will go for a new roof, as the current one has many leaks,” said Judge Cathy Harrison, Miller County, Ark.
Construction is expected to begin this fall.
