The Texarkana Public Library is set for some exciting changes. First on the list is a fresh coat of paint for the walls, marking the first color change since 1980, according to Olivia Poulton, the library’s director.
Next, the library plans to adorn the walls with images that highlight Texarkana’s rich history. “We’re collaborating with a local company, Fab/co, to create various images that showcase the unique and interesting aspects of downtown Texarkana, incorporating historical features as well,” Poulton explained.
In addition to the wall updates, the library is revamping its bookshelves, focusing particularly on the end panels to make them more user-friendly and visually appealing. “The current panels are in poor condition. In the children’s room, we’ll have new interactive end panels that kids can engage with,” said Poulton.
The David Nelson meeting room is also undergoing a transformation, including the installation of new glass doors. “This will create a bright, open space suitable for watching movies or hosting meetings,” Poulton noted.
A major new feature will be a 140-gallon aquarium near the children’s section. “It will house a variety of interesting and colorful fish, aiming to attract more visitors and show that we offer more than just books. We want to spark people’s imagination,” Poulton added.
The aquarium is expected to be ready in the next couple of months, with other projects anticipated to be completed by the fall.
