The Texarkana Arkansas School District (TASD) has named Maria Moya as the TASD Classified Employee of the Year. Classified employees play crucial roles in transportation, facility maintenance, clerical duties, technology support, and direct student assistance, contributing significantly to the school’s environment.

Maria Moya, originally from Mexico, holds an accounting degree from the Instituto Tecnológico de Superación Integral de Celaya. After moving to Texarkana in 1990, she faced numerous challenges, including not speaking English. Determined to overcome these obstacles, she attended college to learn the language, seeking guidance through prayer.

In August 1997, Ms. Moya joined TASD as a Spanish Translator. Over her 27-year tenure, she has worked at Kilpatrick, Fairview, Trice Elementary Schools, and currently at North Heights Community School. She cherishes teaching with her colleagues and interacting with students eager to learn Spanish and English. Ms. Moya emphasizes making students and their families feel welcomed and supported at TASD.

Ms. Moya also volunteers at hospitals and accompanies district parents to doctor visits, providing translation services. TASD Superintendent Dr. Lloyd Jackson praised her dedication, stating, “Ms. Moya is a valuable asset to the Texarkana Arkansas School District. Her commitment to our students and their families is priceless and extends far beyond the classroom.”
