Texarkana Arkansas Police Get Much Needed Raise

The Texarkana, Arkansas Board of Directors unanimously approved a wage increase for police officers during Monday night's meeting.

The Texarkana, Arkansas Board of Directors unanimously approved a wage increase for police officers during Monday night’s meeting. Prior to the vote, patrol officers earned between $45,473.90 and $64,121.68 annually, depending on experience. Sergeants earned $67,131.87 in their first year, while captains made $81,716.01 annually.

City Manager Tyler Richards supported the increase, citing a need to improve recruitment and retain current staff, with the department facing a shortage of 10 officers for over six years. Entry-level officers will now earn $58,000, with sergeants receiving an 11% raise, and lieutenants and captains getting a 10% boost. Civilian personnel will see a 5% increase. The pay raise is expected to reduce overtime costs and attract new recruits.

There was a brief discussion on salary differences with Texas officers, with Richards noting that overall pay is comparable, though benefits differ between the two sides. Several board members were absent from the meeting.
