Texarkana, Arkansas, officials are mulling over an ordinance aimed at curbing front yard parking within the historic district. The proposal, up for discussion at Monday night’s city Board of Directors meeting, could levy a $50 daily fine for violations.

City planner Jamie Finley highlighted the distinct standards of the historic district, noting existing rules against parking trailers or campers in front yards. However, increasing concerns prompt the need for stricter regulations as muddy conditions and blocked sidewalks become commonplace.

The proposed ordinance would extend to the area from the front of a house to the street. Yet, not all residents are on board. Alex Wilson expressed concerns over limited parking space on Beech Street and urged flexibility for property owners needing temporary front yard parking.

Finley acknowledged the need for concessions but emphasized the necessity to address the issue of preserving grass and preventing sidewalk obstruction.
