The baseball fields at Swanger Complex and Grady T. Wallace Park in Texarkana are undergoing significant renovations.
Ross Cowling, the Texarkana Texas Sports and League Manager, emphasized the substantial investment, noting its potential for a significant economic boost. Texarkana, Texas city leaders have greenlit spending up to $11 million for these upgrades. The project includes installing artificial turf on the fields, expanding and remodeling concession stands, and upgrading restroom facilities. Cowling believes these enhancements will attract more tourists to the area.
However, Cowling stresses that the improvements aren’t just for traveling tournaments; they’re also meant to provide local children with safe and quality baseball facilities. He anticipates that the investments will benefit both local boys and girls.
Work is scheduled to commence later this summer after the conclusion of Dixie Youth Baseball. The funding for these projects primarily comes from the 2023 Bond Fund, aimed at stimulating the local economy through sports tourism.
