Texarkana College Trustees received an update from Dr. Dixon Boyles, Vice President of Instruction, on the success of the college’s dual credit program. Dr. Boyles highlighted that a new funding source, the Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) program, has helped increase fall enrollment by offering free dual credit courses to educationally disadvantaged high school students.
Texarkana College began offering FAST funding in 2023, leading to record participation in both workforce and college transfer programs. Dr. Boyles emphasized that this investment in students will benefit both their families and the broader community.
Stephanie Stokes, Director of Dual Credit, credited FAST for driving enrollment growth but also noted other contributing factors, including efforts by school districts to make dual credit more accessible. Stokes mentioned that dual credit courses are now widely available to students of all academic levels, not just high achievers.
Thomas Holt, Director of Workforce Education, added that students are increasingly seeking practical skills for the job market, and Texarkana College has responded by offering streamlined pathways to workforce credentials.
To further support students, Texarkana College has introduced Academic Coaches for Dual Credit (AC/DCs), who provide guidance on course selection, financial aid, and transitioning from high school to college.
