Texarkana’s Finance Director and former Interim City Manager, TyRhonda Henderson, has announced her resignation after a 13-year tenure with the city’s administration. Henderson submitted her resignation on Tuesday, with her final day set for July 5.
Henderson has not disclosed any immediate employment plans but expressed a desire to return to public service, a field she grew passionate about since transitioning from the private sector in 2011.
“Public service is an area I never imagined myself in, but I completely love it,” said Henderson, a resident of Ashdown.
Acting City Manager Tyler Richards praised Henderson’s contributions, saying, “She will be greatly missed,” and highlighted her years of dedicated service.
Henderson gained notable recognition in 2022 when she was named Public Sector Chief Financial Officer of the Year by Arkansas Business. Despite this accolade, she maintains a humble view of her achievements.
“I feel that everything I have done was what I was supposed to do,” she said.
Henderson specifically acknowledged her team of seven women, describing them as a “legacy I can leave behind.” She emphasized the collaborative nature of their work, saying, “It wasn’t a one-woman show. If it wasn’t for them, none of it could have happened.”
Looking ahead, Henderson hopes for continued stability and growth for Texarkana, Arkansas, citing proper leadership, employee longevity, and securing good personnel as key factors.
Reflecting on her career, Henderson expressed gratitude for the professional and personal growth opportunities provided by the city. “I will forever be grateful,” she said. “I would love to have retired, but it didn’t play out that way.”
The city manager’s office will appoint an interim finance director following Henderson’s departure.
