Texarkana Highway Construction Moves Into New Phase

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has installed concrete barriers on Mall Drive in front of Spring Lake Park.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has installed concrete barriers on Mall Drive in front of Spring Lake Park. This measure is part of a plan to divert all eastbound traffic from Interstate 30 at the Stateline Avenue exit onto Mall Drive. This detour is necessary to allow contractors to remove and replace the existing I-30 bridge over the KCS train tracks. After the diversion, I-30 traffic will re-enter the Interstate via the entrance ramp just before Stateline. Essentially, it’s a brief detour for interstate travelers.

To accommodate this, the left two lanes on Mall Drive will be designated for interstate traffic, while local traffic on Mall Drive will be restricted to the far right lane. Additionally, North Park Road, which runs under the bridge being demolished, will be closed to traffic. This traffic arrangement is expected to remain in place for about twelve months.

Local drivers on Mall Drive may experience minor delays. Since non-interstate traffic on Mall Drive cannot use the entrance ramp to get onto Interstate 30, they will need to use the Jefferson Avenue entrance ramp in Arkansas after passing through the traffic lights at Stateline Avenue. We recommend considering alternative routes to avoid this section of Mall Drive during the construction period. If you must travel in this area, please reduce your speed and exercise extra caution to ensure everyone’s safety.
