The Texarkana Homeless Coalition is inviting the community and local non-profits to join in a day of giving back at the third annual Resource Day, happening next week downtown.
The event, set for September 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crossties Event Venue, brings together dozens of organizations to assist the homeless and those living in poverty. The goal is to provide services such as food, haircuts, job placement, medical screenings, and veteran support, all in one place to help those in need access essential resources quickly.
With over 150 homeless individuals in Texarkana, and 200-300 people receiving daily meals from local shelters, Resource Day aims to make a real impact. Organizers hope to help people find and enroll in services that normally take months to secure.
Vashil Fernandez, chair of the Texarkana Homeless Coalition, said, “It’s a great opportunity to bring together services that help make homelessness brief, non-recurring, and real.”
Last year, around 400 people attended, with 50 vendors and 20 volunteers. There’s still time to sign up as a vendor or volunteer, with a deadline of Monday.
