The Texarkana Texas Police Department reports that Officer Kevin Buck is safe after his patrol car was struck by a suspected intoxicated driver early this morning. Officer Buck was parked on westbound I-30 to redirect traffic from an earlier rollover crash managed by Texas DPS, which had blocked all lanes.
While he was in his vehicle, 30-year-old Matthew Patterson reportedly ignored flashing lights and warnings, colliding with Officer Buck’s patrol car. Officer Buck was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, treated, and released. Patterson was arrested on charges of Driving While Intoxicated and booked into the Bi-State Jail.
Police urge drivers never to drink and drive, emphasizing the serious dangers involved.
