Texarkana will hold its annual Tax-Free Weekend from Friday, August 9, through Sunday, August 11. During this period, most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks priced under $100 will be exempt from sales tax.
The tax-free offer applies to purchases made in Texas stores, as well as online and catalog sales from Texas-based sellers. Most shoppers will not need to present an exemption certificate to benefit from the tax-free status.
Eligible items include:
Clothing and footwear
Face masks
Backpacks
School supplies
Shoppers can make tax-free purchases in-store, online, by phone, or through mail during the holiday period. For online or remote orders, the date of the transaction determines tax exemption eligibility. For instance, if a purchase is made online on August 11 but the item ships later, it remains tax-free as long as payment is processed by the end of the holiday.
If you are charged sales tax on qualifying items during the tax-free weekend, you can request a refund from the seller or use Form 00-985 to claim a refund directly from the Comptroller’s office
