Texarkana, Texas, is launching the second year of its HOME program, an initiative by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs to support low-income homeowners. According to Matt Solomon, project management coordinator for Texarkana, the program allows homeowners to apply for their substandard homes to be demolished and replaced with new ones.

Applications are now open for this round of funding. Solomon emphasized that the goal is to provide adequate housing for residents within Texarkana city limits.

A two-day event will be held on October 22 and 23 at the Bowie County Health Center, located at 902 W. 12th St., Texarkana, starting at 10 a.m. each day. This event will provide more information and help with applications.

To qualify, applicants must meet income requirements, own their home, and agree to live in it for the next five years. If the home is sold before that time, the homeowner will owe the program’s funds. Participation is free, and the application deadline is November 8.
