Two canines from the Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) excelled in the National Detector Dog Field Trials, securing first place and outshining several federal agencies, including the CIA.

The TTPD proudly announced on social media, “We are extremely proud to share with you guys that our two canine teams won first place as a department on the national level last week.”

The United States Police Canine Association, Inc., which established the competition 50 years ago to enhance Police K-9 Units, recognized the TTPD’s impressive achievement. The department’s teams surpassed formidable competitors such as the New York Police Department and the CIA.

According to the TTPD, Officer Aaron Lewis with his K9 partner Absurd and Officer Cole Bredenberg with his K9 partner Thor participated in a rigorous two-day competition focused on narcotics and explosives detection, earning national certification in detection work. Officer Bredenberg and Thor also distinguished themselves individually, placing seventh overall and fourth in vehicle detection.

“These teams train very hard to serve and protect the people of our community on a daily basis, and we are extremely proud when they get the opportunity to show off those hard-earned skills to others around the country,” the TTPD stated.

The United States Police Canine Association is dedicated to training and certifying police dogs in various specializations, including General Patrol Dog use, Tracking, Protection, Narcotic Detection, Explosive Detection, Arson, Fish and Game, and Search and Rescue.
