The Texarkana, Texas Police Department arrested Melissa Egger, 45, on Wednesday for theft exceeding $300,000, a first-degree felony.
In mid-2023, a local business reported financial discrepancies discovered by their accounting firm, leading to suspicion that Egger, who had worked as a bookkeeper and office manager since 2011, was responsible. She was terminated after the discrepancies were found.
A year-long audit by a forensic accountant revealed that Egger had embezzled over $700,000 during her 12 years with the company. Detective Warren Smith secured a warrant for her arrest earlier this week, and Egger turned herself in on Tuesday. She was booked into the Bi-State Jail, with her bond set at $100,000.
