The family of an East Texas man, diagnosed with a rare brain and spinal cord disorder 10 years ago, is working to raise awareness and fund research.
The Atlanta community is hosting a trail run fundraiser this month to support efforts for those with superficial siderosis, a neurodegenerative disorder that affects less than one in three million people. Gary Daniel was diagnosed in 2014 and says the disorder, often mistaken for diseases like Parkinson’s, causes symptoms such as hearing loss, memory issues, and balance problems.
Daniel’s niece, Tanya Beers, is organizing the Trail Grinder race on Sept. 28 in Atlanta, Texas, to raise $5,000 for the Superficial Siderosis Research Alliance.
